Where are Flame Arresters used?

A Flame Arrestor is a device fitted to the opening of an enclosure or to the connecting pipework in a procedure of enclosures and which allows gases, liquids, etc. to pass through it but prevents the transmission of a flame in order to prevent a larger fire or explosion. All flame arresters have the same functional principle: removing heat from the flame as it attempts to transit through narrow paths with walls of metal or other heat-conductive material. The main objective of a flame arrestor is to control a larger fire or explosion or can be said to stop fuel combustion by extinguishing the flame. A typical flame arrestor is a bundle of small tubes, that achieves the essential venting capability but prevents that passage of flame.

Applications of Flame Arrester

  • On the vent of fuel storage tanks

  • On the pipeline of fuel gas

  • On the Safety storage cabinets for paint, aerosol cans, and other flammable mixtures

  • On the exhaust system of internal combustion engines

  • Portable plastic gasoline containers

  • Overproof rums and other flammable liquids.

  • Davy lamp in coal mines.

  • The air intake of marine inboard engines .

Where are Flame Arresters used?

FLAME ARRESTOR Musaffah, Abu Dhabi, UAE are commonly used wherever there is the possibility for an explosion occurring from flammable gas or vapor being mixed with air. Accidental ignition of a flammable mixture will result in a flame that will travel through the unburnt mixture until the fuel is consumed by the reaction. Since a huge range of process applications are susceptible to this risk, flame arresters are utilized widely in order to protect people, plants & equipment, and, of course, the environment.

It is strongly suggested that arrestors with cut-off valves are fitted to the pressure regulator outlet of all acetylene cylinders and acetylene allocation systems. It is highly advisable to fit them to the oxygen outlet, and other fuel gas outlets. They can be provided to the blowpipe, but this offers no protection from a fire arising from a leaking hose.
