Where are Flame Arresters used?
A Flame Arrestor is a device fitted to the opening of an enclosure or to the connecting pipework in a procedure of enclosures and which allows gases, liquids, etc. to pass through it but prevents the transmission of a flame in order to prevent a larger fire or explosion. All flame arresters have the same functional principle: removing heat from the flame as it attempts to transit through narrow paths with walls of metal or other heat-conductive material. The main objective of a flame arrestor is to control a larger fire or explosion or can be said to stop fuel combustion by extinguishing the flame. A typical flame arrestor is a bundle of small tubes, that achieves the essential venting capability but prevents that passage of flame.
